Sclerotherapy

The procedure takes up to one hour, depending on the amount of varicose and spider veins that you have. It is practically painless, since only the finest and highest quality needles are used.

Varicose veins and spider veins form because of damage to the valvular system of these vessels, which when working properly, allow blood from the legs to shoot upwards towards the heart, and not vice versa. When these valves are damaged, blood is also allowed to go downwards towards the feet, and so these veins build pressure, enlarge, and become visible through the skin. Sclerotherapy is a technique which involves the injection of a sclerosant liquid into the veins. This causes the walls of the veins to stick together, empty of blood and ultimately become absorbed by the body.

The number of treatments necessary to clear or improve the spider vein condition differs with each patient and depends on the healing capability of the body. The number of treatments per patient varies.  After each treatment you will notice further improvement of your legs’ appearance.

Immediately following treatment you will be advised to walk. The use of support stockings following treatment is recommended from the moment the procedure is done. Warm baths and heavy exercise are not recommended for a few days following treatment.

Sclerotherapy is a very safe procedure. Pigmentation may, rarely, appear around the injected area and this usually resolves on its own.
